Thermoelectric Power Generation System
Brázdil, Marian ; Nerud, Pavel (referee) ; Pospíšil, Jiří (advisor)
In the last decade there is a rising interest in thermoelectric applications. Thermoelectric generators enabling the direct conversion of the heat into the electricity become attractive. This fact is caused by the demands of environmental operation and saving primary resources. Scientists intensively investigate and develop new materials and structures suitable for these applications. The efficiency of the thermoelectric conversion progressively increases. Unfortunately we have no available materials with sufficient thermoelectric properties which could provide cost-competitive price. Thermoelectric generators seem to be useable devices. For example, in case of the unused waste heat using of the thermoelectric generator can increase the overall effectiveness of the unit despite the low efficiency of the generator. This master thesis deals with the issue of the Peltier modules representing the main part of the thermoelectric generators. The physical principles and structures of the thermoelectric modules and the possibility of thermoelectric power production are described here. In the practical part of this thesis the design of the low power generator utilizing waste heat from biomass boiler Verner A 251.1 is proposed.
Equipment for long-term test of BLDC controller
Řihák, Roman ; Háze, Jiří (referee) ; Šteffan, Pavel (advisor)
This diploma thesis deals with the design and realization of equipment for long-term testing of the controller of brushless DC motors. In the theoretical part are mentioned principles and explanation of the function of various types of electric motors. The diploma thesis also deals with brushless motors, how they are controlled, types, constructed, etc. At the end of the first chapter there is a mention of thermoelectric phenomena. The second chapter describes the appropriate design of equipment for long-term testing from the block diagram to the construction itself. The third chapter deals with the implementation and function of the entire test system.
Small Temperature Test Chamber
Lust, Radek ; Punčochář, Josef (referee) ; Šebesta, Jiří (advisor)
This thesis focuses on the methodology of determining the parameters of Peltier batteries and the theory of construction of a cooling block on the basis of obtained parameters. Gathered information is then used for design and construction of a small test chamber for laboratory purposes.
Use of Peltier Elements for Temperature Cycling
Müller, Petr ; Starý, Jiří (referee) ; Šandera, Josef (advisor)
This project deals with the use of Peltier frames for thermal cycling in the implementation of rapid testing in the workplace for thermo-mechanical stress solder joints. Its base is describing the various parts of the workplace. Peltier effect is shown and Peltier cells are described, which is the base of the workplace. They are analyzed possible ways to control workplace and summarized their advantages and disadvantages. It was constructed and described the system entering temperature cycles with electronics indicating fault frame.
Design and construction laboratory exercise with Peltier cell
Mejzlík, Michal ; Šlezingr, Jan (referee) ; Macháček, Jan (advisor)
The introduction of this paper describes three thermoeletrical effects and their properties. It also deals with thermoelectrical cells, which are using Seebeck´s and Peltrier´s effects. The paper decribes principles how the Peltier´s cells work, their mathematical model, construction and practical use. The paper shows what kinds, shapes and output we can meet at the market and which kinds of parameters regulate their selection. The paper suggests the possibility to measure characteristic behaviour and quantity during laboratories tasks and their evaluations. At the conclusion is adduced the suggestion of laboratory task together with theoretically made pilot protocol.
Thermoelectric properties of alkali activated aluminosilicates
Filipská, Kristýna ; Fiala,, Lukáš (referee) ; Zmeškal, Oldřich (advisor)
This work focuses on the potential usage of alkali-activated aluminosilicates (AAA) in relation to energy harvesting. It sets a goal of familiarizing the reader with thermoelectrical conversion itself and its existence within those materials. Based on this knowledge, the measurement of thermoelectrical voltage has been conducted in chosen mixtures of AAA; more specifically a slag geopolymer with carbon black admixture, a slag geopolymer with graphite powder admixture and a metashale geopolymer with graphite powder admixture. This experiment was executed by repeated heating of the surface area of the sample on one side using a resistor, while the other side was kept at reference temperature. The response in the form of voltage generated in the sample as well as on the electrodes was recorded. The measured values were then used to calculate the Seebeck coefficient. The best response was provided by a slag geopolymer sample with carbon black admixture at 4 % concentration (|| = 1904 V/K). The second goal was to measure thermal properties of those samples, specifically the specific heat capacity, the thermal conductivity coefficient and thermal diffusivity. This goal has been reached by capturing the samples with a thermal camera while heating them on a hot-plate. The highest values of specific heat capacity and the thermal conductivity coefficient were provided by a sample of metashale geopolymer with graphite powder admixture at 8 % concentration (c = 2086 J/kg/K; = 1,815 W/m/K). Thermal diffusivity proved to be almost identical in all samples, 610-7 m2/s on average. Based on the results, we conclude that the thermoelectrical conversion in these materials is not enough to be significant in bigger scale energy harvesting yet. However, we also believe that it’s possible to reach better results with further research.
